Foodable Labs, a food industry insight company has released a new report which shows that plant-based consumption as increased an incredible 300% over the last 12 months. The organization has claimed that the movement is now in full swing, with a growing number of restaurants and companies beginning to take notice. As more and more consumers are leaning towards plant-based options, more than half of chefs (51%) adding vegan items to their menus to keep up with the trend, up an amazing 31% from last year. DOWNLOAD THE RAISE VEGAN APPLE APP But itâs not just chefs that are noticing the trend among consumers and producers of plant-based foods have seen the increase in the demand for their products, (just trying to get some Beyond Burgers at the store is like winning the lottery). In the UK, takeaway service Just Eat has shown a growth in the demand for more vegan options of 987% over the last 12 months. The company had previously predicted that going vegan would be the biggest food trend of 2018, and it looks like they were right. The growing demand for plant-based options has even extended to meal delivery services, showing that the consumer driven food industry is changing rapidly. Is this the end of the meat eating era? With the rapidly growing plant based food industry, and more and more parents choosing to raise their children vegan, it sure would seem like itâs right around the corner. If youâre anything like me, the idea of beets is meh at best. I understand, and making a beet hummus, I was a little dubious as to how it would turn out, but this is out of this world. Via https://raisevegan.com/spruce-up-your-kitchen-with-this-beet-hummus-recipe/ The younger years, from early toddler-hood through their first formative years of school, kids ask a lot. They ask on average a hundred questions a day.My children apparently are capable of blowing past that status quo and ask that many before breakfast is finished. Who makes the sky? What keeps the birds up there? Why is there a gate on the stairs? Why do I have to wear suncream? What are freckles? Exhaustion in our house usually hits around 7am, and the bedtime countdown begins. But as they get older, the inquiries fade according to Michelle Woo of Lifehacker. For teachers, asking “Do you have any questions?” during a lesson becomes more of a formality than an earnest invitation into deeper exploration. The reason for this? Richard Saul Wurman, the original creator of the TED conference, narrows in on the educational system, saying, “In school, we’re rewarded for having the answer, not for asking a good question.” DOWNLOAD THE RAISE VEGAN APPLE APP And that’s tragic. Asking questions is how we learn, how we evolve, how we end up creating things that hadn’t existed before. Thankfully, though, educators are making changes. In a tweet, a Louisiana math teacher named Andre Sasser shared that in her classrooms, she’s made a simple yet powerful tweak in her wording: The usual, “Do you have any questions?” Sasser changed to “What ones do you have?” which saw an improvement, yet, then she upped the critical thinking and asked ‘Ask me two questions’, which changed the mindset. Now the children had to think of two, it was more focused, it wasn’t such a large daunting task. DOWNLOAD THERAISE VEGAN GOOGLE PLAY APP Doing this simple trick at home changes everyone’s perspective from having to come up with a magical number, to attaining that goal much easier. Two questions, we can all think of two simple questions on any subject at any given time, and so can your kids. Asking if they have ‘any questions’, leaves them having to review the entire conversation or lesson in its entirety at once. Having an environment that is welcoming to dialogue, setting the conversation on a rolling hill from the start. Children are rewarded for sitting still and being quiet in their classrooms, and for good reason, they need to learn. It might also be the cause for why they stop asking questions so much, which I never want my children to give up that lust for life, or to think that not knowing the answer is a problem. So when I get asked tomorrow morning on the way to school, why a road goes a certain way and what is the point of one-way roads for the 10th time this month. I’ll answer, and then tell her to think of one more question about roads that she doesn’t know. WANT YOUR MAGAZINE IN PRINT? GET IT FOR UNDER $4 A MONTH RAISEVEGAN The post Anymore questions? The pilot program for patients was born out a meeting with Deputy Mayor Herminia Palacio, NYC Health + Hospitals leaders, including Dr. Michelle McMacken, and other plant-based nutrition experts. Dr. McMacken, who will direct the pilot program for patients, showed her support: âThis program will assist patients who are living with chronic health conditions, giving them the guidance and support they need to transition to a healthy lifestyle. Yep, she needed time off to give birth, so they fired her.Kameisha Denton, a former employee of popular sub chain store Jersey Mike’s, shared a screenshot of a text message conversation between her and her former boss on Facebook. The post quickly went viral and you can see just why. The messages show Kameisha asking her manager for an updated schedule after realizing she wasn’t assigned any shifts. The manager spent no time beating around the bush and went straight into telling her that she was fired for being pregnant. He got straight to the point of telling her that she was fired because ‘it’s not a good time to have someone who will be leaving for maternity leave in several months.’ The keyword here being SEVERAL months. Meaning more than one or two. Luckily for Kameisha though, Washington state law states it’s “unfair practice” for an employer to refuse to hire or promote, terminate or demote, a woman due to pregnancy or childbirth. Tim Trieb, owner of the Jersey Mike’s franchise where Kameisha worked has said it is company policy to treat everyone equally and that this incident ‘never ever should have happened.’ As for the manager who fired her, he resigned according to KIRO-TV. Kameisha was offered her job back at the Jersey Mike’s store where she was fired for being pregnant, but understandably turned down the offer. WANT YOUR MAGAZINE IN PRINT? For residents of the state’s largest city tucking into some crustaceans along with a cold beer is part of the culture. So it’s only to be expected that PETA’s new vegan billboard has raised some eyebrows among the locals.
As part of a nationwide campaign to get more people to think about where their food is coming from PETA erected a billboard near Baltimore’s busy Inner Harbour, which features Maryland’s state crustacean, the blue crab, along with the words: ‘I’m ME, not MEAT. See the individual. Go Vegan.’ Executive vice president of PETA, Tracy Reiman, supports the billboard and says the aim is to give city residents and tourists “food for thought about sparing sensitive marine animals the agony of being boiled alive or crushed to death in fishing nets simply by going vegan.” The animal rights group paid for the vegan billboard, which is situated near to popular waterfront locations which are known for their crab cakes, ahead of September’s Baltimore Seafood Festival. The film will show the cows being repeatedly impregnated, then separated from their calves, milked until they are no longer found to be profitable or stop producing milk, then eventually sent to slaughter. Lynch begins the narration of the vegan documentary by saying âThis is the tragic reality for dairy cows. I was unaware of the suffering behind every glass of milk, but what I discovered changed my perspective. You donât know what itâs like to be in a room designed to kill you.â The vegan documentary will be shown at the film festival, which runs from September 26th â October 27th in London.
