Beautiful California, how I miss you every day. Your beaches, your warm weather, and all of your of vegan food options. This week, I’ll be traveling home from France to see my family for the holidays. Not only am I excited to see them, but I’m just as excited to indulge in some vegan delicacies that France doesn’t have just quite yet. Here are the five vegan things from America that should not be taken for granted. YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE:

TofuTofu isn’t a huge deal in France as compared to how widespread it is back in the states. The French tend to use vegetable-based alternatives compared to soy which is better for your overall health but sometimes, tofu-steaks seem to really call your name. You can, however, find tofu in France by going to specialty Asian supermarkets if your city has one. If. Black BeansUnfortunately, after searching far and wide, I have yet to find one of my favorite staples anywhere in France. Les haricots roses, or pinto beans, have already been a struggle to find, and although rare, they do exist here. As for black beans, you will just have to do without. Vegan MarshmallowsMarshmallows are already near non-existent in France. They can only be found in the “American” food section of supermarkets and not only are they very pricey, but they are also filled with gelatin which is a big no-no for vegans. Stores including Trader Joe’s offer these delicious, fluffy bundles of joy which are animal-friendly (in case you didn’t know) and I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t miss a having hot cup of cocoa with vegan marshmallows in the Winter. Taco BellTaco Bell is hands down one of my favorite vegan things from America, that I simply love. We have many major American chains in France with vegan-friendly options including Subways, Domino’s, Starbucks and Loving Hut but unfortunately, none of these places offer crunch wraps or cinnamon twists. I already have my post-flight order planned in my head. Non-Dairy Milk at CafésUnless you are at a specialty vegan café or Starbucks, it’s highly unlikely that non-dairy milk will be an option for your morning coffee in France. Even so, it’s usually only soy milk that is offered as an alternative which I, unfortunately, can’t drink since it’s the only soy product that I’m oddly allergic to. French Starbucks offers coconut milk in addition to soy but in my heart, it could never replace my number one choice of almond milk. Animals are adorable, we all know this. This is one of the reasons why I decided to cut meat out of my diet when I was only twelve years old, against the wishes of my very carnivorous family. With that being said, we all love to look at cute giraffe photos online and send each other cat memes but what about when it comes to seeing animals in real life? But are petting zoos ethical? Zoos are a tricky subject when it comes to ethics, due to the emergence of rehabilitation zoos. Despite your stance on that subject, I think that we can all agree that using animals for show, like at petting zoos, isn’t ethical. To my shock, this is something that I had just come across in real life. You might also like:
Petting Zoos- Are They Ethical? At the Christmas market this weekend, I had noticed that a “petting zoo” was set up. When I say petting zoo, I use that term very loosely. What I mean to say is that there was a tiny, door-less barn with a handful of farm animals being displayed in the almost zero degree Celsius weather where children have the freedom to prod at them. Oh, yeah. And it was raining. Hard. The individual running the “attraction”? Unbothered. The average person will not hesitate to speak out when they see a dog in the cold or a stray cat in the rain, so why is it so accepted to have a ram or a chicken out in the same conditions? It’s for that reason that I wrote a very strongly worded letter to L’Office de Tourisme (the tourist center) about what I saw at the Christmas market and voicing my opinion on why it’s not only wrong, but a very poor example of ethics to present to the children attending. Unfortunately, I have the feeling that my plea to not include petting zoos next year will fall on deaf ears as the French are very much in tune with keeping their traditions alive. This is something that I’ve also recalled as a reason on why the French generally don’t fully pursue veganism. We’ve begun to make great progress with eliminating the consumerism of entertainment based on the expense of animals, for example, with the downfall of the Ringling Brothers circus last year. Evidently, we still have a lot of progress to make but in order to be successful, we must not be silent. Have you ever spoken out about the mistreatment of animals? What are your opinions on petting zoos? Let me know in the comments below. And, if you’re still wondering what kind of Christmas gifts to get this year. The post Guide for expecting moms to Glam Up With Cruelty Free Makeup this new year appeared first on Raise Vegan. Via https://raisevegan.com/guide-for-expecting-moms-to-glam-up-with-cruelty-free-makeup-this-new-year/ New Year’s resolutions are difficult to follow, no matter what it is you are trying to do in the new year. However, with the right game-plan, you could easily succeed in implementing a healthy and new habit. Here are three new year resolutions for vegans to try for 2019 and how to set yourself up for success. YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE:
New Year Resolutions For VegansReduce Plastic UsageThinking about the environment, working on reducing your plastic usage is a great challenge to try for the new year. With your daily Starbucks, think about either bringing your own reusable cup (Hydroflask sells great coffee tumblers) or even just bringing a stainless steel straw to enjoy your cold brew. Produce bags are another great investment to make as compared to using disposable plastic bags from the supermarket that are too flimsy to reuse. If you already do these things and want to continue being a superstar, try to start composting. Meal PrepPreparing your meals beforehand is a great way to not only save money on eating out during lunch hour, but it will also save you time back at home. Make between three and five servings of your favorite breakfasts and lunches to stow away for the work week. Some of my go-to meal prep breakfasts are overnight oats, smoothies (with fruit chopped and prepped), and breakfast burritos with beans, potatoes, and salsa. As for lunches, some of my favorites are vegan chili, portobello Mexican salad and zucchini noodle spaghetti with lentil “meatballs”. By meal-prepping, you’ll be able to make sure that you’re giving your body the proper fuel that it needs to do your best during the day. In order to successfully meal prep, you need to ensure that you cook healthy foods that you know you’ll enjoy. It’s also a good idea to pack light snacks with your lunch, such as a serving of your favorite fruit or some hummus with crackers. Eat More GreensNew Year Resolutions For Vegans have to be healthy, isn’t it? Just because you are vegan doesn’t always mean that you are eating as healthy as you should be. Greens are usually the biggest challenge for people to incorporate into their diet. Ideally, you should check in with your doctor or nutritionist to see if you are getting the correct amount of greens for your body. However, if you already know that you need more greens in your diet, there are ways to ensure that you get them. Mindful eating can help, thinking about what you’re eating and how much. If you’re not getting enough greens because you’re not a fan of the taste, think about hiding them in smoothies and in stir-fry among vegetables that you do like and a delicious sauce. The ace golfer (46), along with Mahesh Virajdar (former Navy captain), was arrested on 26th December for unlawful hunting in Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, which is a protected area. You might also like:
Golfer Arrested For Illegal PoachingIndia’s professional golfer, Jyoti Randhawa was arrested for unlawful hunting in the protected Tiger Reserve and has been put into 14 days judicial custody by the court. His bail plea has also been rejected. As per the Zee News report, Skin of wild boar, a dead fowl, 80 live cartridges, .22 bore rifle, magazine, rangefinders, 3 empty cartridges and mobile search light torches were recovered from the international golfer’s possession. Randhawa and his accomplice Virajdar have been slapped with charges under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and the Indian Forest Act, 1927. Apart from illegal poaching, Randhawa is already facing heat after his name emerged in an investigation, by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), focused on illegal import of firearms. Allegedly, these are the same weapons involved in unlawful hunting in the protected area. The golfer, who once ranked among top 100 world players in a period from 2004 to 2009 and bagged 16 professional victories, isn’t new to controversies. Earlier this year, Randhawa got involved in the highly criticized shooting of Avni (a tigeress) when he bought his Italian mastiffs to aide in the tigress’s hunting in Yavatmal. With minimal ingredients and not too much prep, Roasted Brussel Sprouts could easily become a weekly meal. The rundown on this dish is pretty straightforward; it is spicy, filling, and will keep you coming back for more. This was the first recipe I had ever made with soyrizo and I was not disappointed, the whole dish marries perfectly together. The potatoes are nice and crispy, the sprouts are moist and tender, and the soyrizo adds a nice little kick to an otherwise standard dish. Another great use for this dish is to dice the potatoes, shred the brussel sprouts, and throw it all in a warm tortilla for a taco night. Regardless, if this is a side dish or the star of your meal, don’t get your hopes up for leftovers. Roasted Brussel Sprouts and Potatoes with Soyrizo recipe continues below. You might also like:

There’s a whole host of teething solutions for parents to choose from, but recently we’ve seen warning after warning against the use of some, first teething tablet, and now teething necklace. The warning comes after a shocking report of an eighteen-month-old being strangled by an amber teething necklace while napping. There was also a report of a seven-month-old who choked on the beads of a wooden teething bracelet and had to be hospitalized. In a statement released on Thursday, by the FDA Commissioner Scott Gotlieb, M.D. said that they’re concerned about the risks they’ve seen with the teething jewelry, and they want parents to be fully informed and aware that they put children at risk of severe injury and death. A few years ago the FDA warned parents and caregivers about the dangers of homeopathic teething products that were on the market. The warning came about because of the result of FDA analysis and testing that showed that some teething tablets had inconsistent amounts of belladonna, a toxic plant that can be dangerous in large amounts. How can you soothe a teething baby safely?Teething specific chew toys are great for soothing aching gums. It’s not advised to freeze teething rings. Cold, damp washcloths can be twisted and frozen and are great for teething babies to chew on to relieve pain. You can massage your baby’s gums with a clean finger or knuckle. As a last resort, you can ask your pediatrician about giving a dose of acetaminophen. The post FDA Warns Against Using Teething Necklace appeared first on Raise Vegan.
