I’ve never been great at establishing bedtime habits with my children. This is probably the reason why I haven’t slept properly in fifteen years. Every night there’s some kind of issue surrounding bedtime. I usually end up giving in and allowing a kid to sleep next to me. Dr. Laura Jana has some great advice for getting your child into a bedtime routine. So I present to you, the four Bs of bedtime! YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE:
The Four Bs of BedtimeThe four Bs of bedtime is a great option for smoothing the transition into a more comfortable bedtime routine for both parents and children. Bathing.Giving your child a bath before bed is a great way to soothe them. A nightly bath is a great way to separate the daily activities and gives your child the cue that the bedtime routine has started. Brushing. It’s never too early to get your child into the habit of brushing their teeth, and it is extremely important. The earlier you begin, the easier it is to implement. It can be helpful to read books about the subject to get your child used to the idea. Books.Reading to your child at bedtime can provide a great source of comfort for them. Listening to your voice as you read to your child is soothing and can be the perfect cue to your child that it’s almost time to sleep. It is never too early to spark the love of reading. Bedtime. It’s pretty impossible to force a child to fall asleep. If you establish a nightly routine of bathing, brushing, and books, the next step is getting your child to fall asleep independently. Dr. Laura suggests implementing a nightly method to get your child ready and into bed. Saying “if you do a good job of making the bed, your child will learn to lie in it.” Do you have a nighttime routine in order to make bedtimes easier? Have you tried the four Bs of bedtime? A major pizza joint has been making a lot of vegan customers very unhappy by sending out pizzas with dairy cheese instead of the plant-based one the customers ordered. Papa Johnâs UK has been putting the cheese on the pizzas labeled âveganâ despite not asking if it was okay to substitute, claiming they âran outâ of the vegan-friendly cheese alternative they have recently introduced. Papa Johnâs UK has been sending customers dairy cheese on top of their pizzas marked âveganâ
It hasnât been even a week since Papa Johnâs UK jumped onto the vegan-friendly bandwagon and came up with Vegan Sheese pizza that they claimed to be a big hit among their customers, but it seems they werenât prepared to handle the demand. The food chain that tweeted they were âout of stockâ in just one day found themselves in the midst of a huge public relations crisis and honestly, wide scale liability issue, as customers complained about receiving dairy cheese atop their vegan pizza that they ordered from Papa Johnâs UK locations. One Twitter user posted the screenshot of a vegan expressing concerns over the Vegan Sheese pizza after they received a vegan pizza tasting exactly like their dairy counterpart. The person wrote, âAnyone had the vegan Papa Johnâs? It tastes exactly how I remember real cheese tasting and Iâve had someone else try it and they said it tastes like real cheese too? Someone put my mind at ease so I can eat it please.â The person called Papa Johnâs to inquire about the ingredients and was absolutely shocked to learn the reputed chain used dairy cheese when they ran out of the vegan one. However, the box was still marked vegan. YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE:
Needless to say, this sparked outrage among vegans who questioned Papa Johnâs seriousness about their latest initiative. Papa Johnâs UK has expressed concerns over the claims and said they are investigating this as a matter of urgency. But their reply didnât seem to go down well with the vegan community and quite a lot of people have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration. Hereâs a tip for any restaurant looking to expand their plant-based offerings: never underestimate the power of vegans. There will always be a demand for our delicious food, and you would do well to prepare for it. The post Papa Johnâs UK Angers Vegans by Topping Pizza with Dairy Cheese appeared first on Raise Vegan. Regardless of whether the ad was appropriate or not, toxic masculinity is real even if you wouldnât want to admit it. A positive post featuring Turia Pitt, an Australian mother, motivational speaker, and burn victim, received a lot of hurtful comments that will leave you questioning the lack of empathy in people these days. Are we becoming increasingly insensitive with each passing day? These hateful comments on a post about a burn victim reek of toxic masculinity.Valentineâs Day is fast approaching and there are a lot of beautiful love stories out there that will make you believe in the power of true love. As I lay in my bed, scrolling through my social media feeds, I came across one such particularly inspiring love story of Turia Pitt. She is an Australian athlete with an engineering background, humanitarian, and author who overcame all the hurdles life threw at her in the form of a major fire accident that left her with third-degree burns. She survived catastrophic injuries while participating in an ultramarathon. A doting mother to her cute little son she lovingly named Hakavai, Turiaâs love story is as beautiful as her soul. Turia suffered third-degree burns to sixty-five percent of her body and was fighting hard to survive. She had to claw her way back into life after spending a grueling five months of recovery at the hospital. Michael gave up his job as a police officer to care for the love of his life who he had been with since high school. He surprised her with a ring when she was in intensive care. In Turiaâs own words, Michaelâs love was what kept her going even when she wanted to give up on life during the tumultuous ordeal. Inspiring, isnât it? Well not everyone thought so. In the perfect display of toxic masculinity, there were quite a lot of enlightened individuals who took some extra time out of their incredibly busy lives and left some beautiful comments on a post about the amazing couple. Here, take a look at some of the gems: Great priorities: Some more empathy driven messages: These hateful/hurtful (whatever you might want to call them) are the embodiment of empathy-less existence that a lot of people are gearing toward. I will call it toxic masculinity no matter who chooses to get offended! Maybe Gillette wasnât all that wrong in their advertisement. The urinary system goes through a lot of changes during the nine months of pregnancy. From raging hormones to a growing baby, here are some of the causes of frequent urination during pregnancy. Why does frequent urination happen during pregnancy? Like, why do you have to pee so much?Pregnancy hormones cause your kidneys to expand and produce more urine in order to get rid of waste more efficiently. Your growing baby also presses on your bladder, causing you to take more trips to the bathroom. An increased need to urinate more frequently is one of the first signs of pregnancy. During the first trimester, hormonal changes will increase more urine production, so you will need to visit the bathroom more often. Your uterus is also expanding and pressing down on your bladder. You may get some relief during the second trimester. Even though your uterus is expanding, it will rise high in the abdomen, giving you some temporary relief. During the third trimester, the frequent urination will increase again. Your baby will drop lower into your pelvis which will put more pressure on your bladder. This can even cause you to get up several times a night to use the bathroom. Avoiding caffeinated beverages may help, as caffeine can increase urination. You may find it hard to control your bladder, especially in the last trimester. Laughing, coughing, and sneezing may cause you to leak a tiny bit of urine. This is called stress incontinence, and itâs partly caused by your growing uterus putting pressure on your bladder. Doing Kegel exercises may help to prevent leakage. Kegels strengthen the pelvic floor, which includes the muscles around the urethra. To do a kegel: tighten and relax those muscles, like youâre trying to stop and start the flow of urine. Try to contract those muscles for about ten seconds then release, repeat ten to twenty times in a row for at least three times a day. Please speak with your healthcare provider if you experience any pain during your frequent urination as this could be a sign of a urinary tract infection. The post Frequent Urination During Pregnancy and Why It Happens appeared first on Raise Vegan. Via https://raisevegan.com/frequent-urination-during-pregnancy-and-why-it-happens/ Have you ever been age shamed or felt your worth being calculated by the number of years you have lived and breathed? Age shaming is real and happens more frequently than we acknowledge. We might not be able to change the attitude of age shamers, but we can certainly change the way we react to it. You might also like:
Age Shaming Women: Time to Bid Adieu to Society Dictating How Women ActAs I lay my hands on the pretty bottle of an âanti-agingâ night healing serum meant for women in their late 20s, the words of a random teen in the street echoed in my ears. I was walking my dog and a teenager walked up to me and in a mild adult-ish voice asked, âcan I pet your dog, aunty?â It wasnât a dramatic, soul-crushing moment but I could still feel something hurting inside. Where Iâm from, âauntyâ is a respectful gesture people (kids, teens, and even adults) use while talking to elders (read: way older people). For young people who are older than you but not old enough to be an âauntâ or âuncle,â the words used are âdidi/bhaiyaâ (sis/bro). To be clear here, I wasnât age shamed; I just woke up with a rude shock that I might not appear as young as I would like to believe. And this got me thinking about why does aging hurt women more? Why am I upset over a teenager calling me âauntyâ? Why donât we have an âold is goldâ or âgetting finer with ageâ kind of notion for women? Why do some women fear aging at all? The answer could be hidden somewhere in the age shaming and fears associated with it that women have to deal with worldwide. Women are age shamed a lot more than men.I have seen and heard a lot of men and (unfortunately) women too make comments like, âshe doesnât dress her ageâ or âthat lipstick was too loud for her ageâ for women who commit the mistake of living their life to the fullest even after passing their proverbial ripened age of late 30s. And in the era of social media, the age monster is rubbed in the faces of even female celebrities who are aging rather gracefully. Nobody is spared. It doesnât matter if you look good or bad for your age, you are a woman and youâre aging, so you will be judged. If the age doesnât show, youâve had procedures and thatâs deemed bad. If the wrinkles and skin folds are showing, âhoney you should have taken better care of yourself with exercise, diet, and beauty treatments.â No matter what, the judging wonât stop. You canât win! Who can forget The Daily Mailâs pathetic attempt at age shaming X-Files star Gillian Anderson. She brilliantly tore apart the tabloid for its sad sexism in scrutinizing all the possible procedures she might have undergone to preserve her beauty. In another and more recent event, Lisa Rani Ray, a Canadian actress, TV show host, and philanthropist, got age shamed for the plain old reason that she exists, she is aging, and she dared to post a no-makeup no-filter pic. While the badass reply she gave to the troll is worth applause, the age shaming reply she originally received under her picture highlights inherent misogyny in many people. Have you ever seen some random dude commenting on a male actorâs picture that he looks too old? Or has anyone tried to cut in an argument a male actor is making just to tell him that he is old and irrelevant so he should stop trying to gain limelight? Age shaming is used as a tool to shush women who have opinions. We even have connotations like âold mean woman,â âold woman trying to hog the limelight,â âold woman who still wants to be relevantâ doled out quite liberally to every other woman who is past the approved young age bracket and makes the mistake of having an opinion. Maybe more than holding onto looks, it is the fear of worth being re-evaluated that scares women. Maybe it is the fear of losing the right to have and share an opinion without being called an âirrelevant attention seekingâ old woman. It might be the fear of not being able to put on a new edgy outfit, the kind you would particularly feel beautiful in when you werenât, well, old! More than feeling old, it is the umpteen sacrifices, things you love but have to give up just because it no longer fits the template for older women that scares a lot of us. For example, I have witnessed behind-the-back age shaming of a 60+ woman just because she loves traveling and goes on vacation every six months. She is living her retirement life to the fullest exploring the world instead of playing the expected sitting-at-home-helping-raise-grandchildren role. Maybe things will change for the better with less age shaming and even less pressure to hold up to the highest standards of eternal beauty. Maybe not! But it is a big relief to see several women like Lisa Ray around, who flaunt their age rather confidently. Women like the avid traveler I mentioned, going about their lives doing what they love the most unapologetically, are rays of hope. And as for the pretty bottle of anti-aging serum, it USED to sit on my dresser. Not anymore. I have decided to take a break from the alchemy of preventive anti-aging treatments, constant worries, and the miserable attempts to hiding the signs of ageing. Maybe Iâll celebrate my first wrinkle! The American Pregnancy Association says that more than half of pregnant women will experience some form of nausea during their pregnancy. The name “morning sickness” can be a little misleading though, as nausea and vomiting can occur at any time of the day or night. For some pregnant women, this nauseous feeling can last well into the pregnancy, up to twenty weeks, while it can last throughout an entire pregnancy for others. Severe nausea and vomiting can lead to dehydration and brief hospitalizations, this is known as hyperemesis gravidarum. Fortunately for most women suffering from morning sickness, nausea and vomiting will subside when they enter the second trimester. Although there isn’t any one size fits all cure, there are a few things that you can try to ease the symptoms. Tips to Alleviate Morning SicknessIf you have morning sickness, you can try the following options to see what works for you:
I had morning sickness during all three of my pregnancies. The first two, it stopped right on cue on the first day of my fourteenth week. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I was nauseous all day, every day, for a solid nine months. Personally, what worked for me wasn’t anything I’ve read in a pregnancy book. This was something that was suggested to me by my grandmother who’d had eight children of her own. She suggested smelling citrus fruit when I felt nauseous, specifically lemons. It worked like a charm for me. I walked around for months with lemons in my purse, and I’m sure people were looking at me funny every time I plucked one out and started sniffing it. Your tummy isnât the only part of your body that will get bigger, pregnancy changes your boobs too. While for some, bigger breasts are one of the fun symptoms of pregnancy, there can be some not so fun changes too. Not only will they get bigger, but they will also hurt, get all veiny, nipples may change color, and they might leak. Here is a list of all the ways pregnancy changes your boobs⦠How Pregnancy Changes Your BoobsFrom the start of pregnancy, your hormones are causing all kinds of changes in your breasts to get them ready for breastfeeding. Here are some of the changes that the americanpregnancy.org says you may see. They will get big and heavy. All that extra fluid and blood flow will expand your milk ducts and mammary glands, and this will make them super heavy. It may be a good idea to buy a good supportive bra, preferably one without a wire to help support your breasts during this time. They will hurt like the dickens. One of the downsides to having new big bouncing boobs is that your breasts will become tender. Everything is swollen and achy. They will get veiny. The veins in your breasts dilate during pregnancy in order to accommodate the increased blood flow. You may find that you have noticeable blue veins all over your breasts. Darker, larger nipples.Due to hormones (estrogen) that affect skin pigmentation, youâll notice your nipples may get darker. The Montgomery glands (small bumps on the areola) will enlarge and produce an oily substance. They may start to leak.During the second and third trimesters, your breasts may start to leak a golden gooey like substance. This is called colostrum. Colostrum is the first milk that your breasts will produce. If you find that your breasts are very leaky, you may find it helpful to wear breast pads.
