Raise your hand if youâve heard this before. I get the âis your baby vegan too?â question all the time. And it seems funny to me because I think it would be obvious. People tend to think that a vegan diet is tortuous and that parents shouldnât âforceâ it on their children.But we need to take a step back and think, donât we âforceâ everything on our children? As parents, we decide what types of food to expose them to, which type of religion to raise them as, what clothes they wear, etc. So if you think about it this way, it isnât really forcing them but rather sharing your values with them. We eat a vegan diet because it is healthy, compassionate, and environmentally friendly. Wouldnât you want your child to grow up with the best health, the most loving heart, and a world still full of beauty? I think all parents would answer yes to this question. By raising our baby vegan and monitoring her diet, we are able to do this. Sometimes people say things like, âLucy is never going to get to eat cake or pizzaâ but this is simply not true. In her first year of life, sheâs already had both of those things. There is a vegan option for literally every food out there. Of course, I prefer to give her whole, plant-based foods because that is going to be optimal for her health. We tend to eat minimally processed foods, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, and nuts (nut butters for Lucy) on the day to day. Though some days I give her chickenless nuggets or vegan mac and cheese. It is all about balance! Feeding a baby vegan diet can be so nutritious, but of course, you need to make sure youâre providing the right foods. I make sure I give Lucy all types of fruits and veggies. We like to eat all the colors of the rainbow! I serve lots of whole grains and I choose to give her a pea-based milk that is so full of nutrients. It has protein, calcium, vitamin D, and DHA. Plus, it has zero grams of sugar! As long as you know that you are doing whatâs best for your child, that is all that matters! So to answer the question of âis your baby vegan too?â, âYes, of course she is.â

The vegan hot dog, launched in Europe last month, and is made from a blend of kale, red lentils, carrot, and ginger. Ikea says its vegan hot dogs create around seven times fewer CO2 emissions than the original meat-based hot dog. “The emissions factors are provided by external consultants and include all greenhouse gases,” explained an IKEA representative. As part of their efforts in becoming more sustainable, Ikea has implemented measures which include initiating a food waste solution to cut its food waste to 50% by 2020 and investing in indoor vertical farming company Aerofarms, whose global headquarters are in Newark, New Jersey, operating a 70,000-square-foot indoor vertical farm that produces 2 million pounds of leafy greens per year. Over 200,000 kilograms of food was saved during Ikea’s financial year 2017 as part of its food waste program, which it calculates as 865 tons of carbon emissions, or nearly 450,000 meals. This new pledge means that Norway has become the first country in the world to impose such a ban.

The Norwegian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Energy and Environment recommended the plan as part of the Action Plan on Nature Diversity. The main lobbying power behind this recommendation was Rainforest Foundation Norway, which has been working for years to bring the pledge to existence. Nils Hermann Ranum, the head of the policy and campaign at the Rainforest Foundation Norway, said in a statement; “This is an important victory in the fight to protect the rainforest. Over the last few years, a number of companies have committed to cease the procurement of goods that can be linked to the destruction of the rainforest. Until now, this has not been matched by similar commitments from governments. If you are for example craving meat, maybe even raw meat, your body might be saying that it needs more iron. After giving birth to my youngest, my placenta smoothies hit the spot like nothing else! Some days life can be completely overwhelming, debilitating, and all-consuming. As a mom with PPA/PPD, I can tell you that these feelings absolutely exist and are very real. The path to peace and healing is as individual as the woman herself, and each woman will determine what strategies work or do not work for her. What is true of all women is that discovering which strategies are most effective takes some time and a lot of patience. We often hear “self-care” and picture a leisurely day at the spa, reaching enlightenment at a yoga class, or having a girls night with your friends. But, luckily for all of us maxed out mamas, self-care does not have to move mountains or require much (if any) planning. Self-care can be small, intentional acts that provide you with even the slightest amount of relief physically or mentally. Self-care could be finding time each day to get fresh air, preparing quick foods in the fridge for when you’re on the go and starving, adding essential oils to your bath water or a few drops in the shower, or sitting close with your partner. It could be doing a quick breathing exercise when you’re at your wits end, reading a few lines in a book or magazine while your baby sleeps instead of jumping to do laundry right away, or finishing that cup of coffee (no matter how many times you need to reheat it). Self-care can mean finding a prescription medication that assists you in reaching homeostasis or finally booking that appointment with the counselor that you have been putting off for way too long. Whatever your path looks like, it is what is best for you.
