As per a news report by Kyodo News, Japan might soon leave the International Whaling Commission in order to resume whale hunting for commercial purposes. The report cited government sources claiming the country might begin commercial whale hunting for the first time in 30 years. At present, Japan doesn’t allow commercial whaling and has so far hunted the giant mammals only for ‘scientific research’ purposes. The report also claims that the country might announce it’s decision by the end of the year. You might also like:
Will Japan Resume Commercial Whale HuntingThe impending decision, if taken, would allow the biggest marine animal to be hunted down for meat, oil, blubber and recreation. The Kyodo report also mentions Japan’s plan to allow commercial whale hunting within its economic zone and nearby seas, while Antarctic Ocean would still be declared prohibited for whale hunters. The report citing reliable government sources comes as a rude shock to anti-whaling community and drew immediate criticism from Australia, as per The Guardian. Melissa Price, Minister of Environment (Australia), confirmed the country’s standing on remaining opposed to all forms of whaling, both commercial and ‘scientific’. She went a step ahead and stated,
Conversation campaigners warned that Japan would risk becoming a ‘pirate whaling nation‘ by withdrawing from the IWC. The head of campaigns at Humane Society International (Australia), Nicola Netaon said,
Evidently, Japan had earlier criticized IWC for abandoning it’s original purpose and had argued in favor of resuming “sustainable” hunting of certain whales like minke. Their argument was based on the fact that the population of these type of whales has recovered. You might also like:
Joki Morishita, Japan’s IWC commissioner, had earlier this year issued a warning stating that the nation’s differences with anti-whaling countries were quite clear and they are planning their next step. The warning came following the defeat Japan faced in IWC’s September meeting at Brazil, where the whaling supporting nation’s proposal to change decision making process was voted down. If Kyodo report turns out to be true, Japan would join the likes of Norway and Iceland who presently allow commercial whale hunting. Via https://raisevegan.com/crock-pot-vegan-friendly-mulled-wine-to-warm-your-soul-this-winter/ Mental health issues have plagued my family for years. Let alone coping with mental health issues, nobody even wants to talk about it. It’s isolating, shameful, and very much a taboo subject. I hid my depression and anxiety from my family for years. I thought that I was just a sad, lazy person who just sucked at life. I’d no idea that I was suffering from an actual illness. I wasn’t the only member of my family who struggled, but I was the one who survived. This piece is pretty scary for me to write, not many people know about this dark time. I’m writing this in the hopes that I can convince even just one person to ask for help. Coping with mental health issues isn’t impossible. You can and you will, just ask for help. Coping With Mental Health IssuesTwenty years ago, my cousin took his own life at the age of nineteen. He had battled drug addiction and depression for years. It wasn’t really talked about outside of the family, we all knew he had a huge problem but no one knew how to help him. There just weren’t the resources back then. There were doctor visits and family interventions, but none of it seemed to help him. Four days after I moved to the United States, I received the phone call that I’d been dreading for the longest time. My mom didn’t even have to get the words out, I just knew what she was going to say. It was absolutely devastating for us all. I’ve had my own issues with anxiety and depression for as long as I can remember. There were weeks where I couldn’t get out of bed, days where I wouldn’t shower or get dressed. I’d have the highest highs, thinking to myself ‘life is great, I’ve never been happier’, but in the back of my head there was always a voice telling me that the darkness would soon take over. Sometimes I’d get depressed for no reason, other times, it was some c****y life event that sent me tunneling into despair. My lowest moment was at a time where my personal life was crumbling before me. My family was shattering right before my eyes. I spent a whole summer paralyzed in my bed, thinking of all the ways that I could just end it all. There were two things that made me fight to stay alive that year, my kids and what my cousins suicide did to my family. As much pain and despair that I was in, I couldn’t put them through that again. The burden my kids would have to live with was stronger than my feeling of being a s****y mother. The fact that I had those feelings was the little glimmer of hope that I needed to get myself some help. That summer I had been seeing a therapist but I wasn’t completely honest with him all the time. I had this facade of a happy-go-lucky person most of the time, until one day I marched into his office without an appointment and begged him to help me. I hysterically told him of all the dark thoughts I’d been having. He wanted to prescribe me anti-depressants. I told him that I was scared to wait two weeks for the effects of the medications to kick in. I was honestly terrified that I would walk out of his office that day and take my own life. That man saved my life. He called some of my family members and made sure I had a solid support system until the meds started to work. I eventually pulled myself out of the abyss and slowly started to enjoy life again. Six years later I had my daughter and I often look at her and think ‘this is the reason I found the strength to keep going’. That was a defining moment in my life. It showed me that even at my most hopeless time, I still had some strength. There’s been many more c****y life stuff thrown my way since then and I honestly think going through all of that made me realize just how strong I am. There’s a saying, ‘you’re stronger than you know’, that used to be my mantra. I’ve now altered that saying to, ‘you know how strong you are’. This year I’ve repeated that saying over and over to myself and it helps me to know that no matter how hard things get, I can and will get through it. If you are struggling with thoughts of suicide please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Reach out to someone, anyone. Life is so worth living. Coping with mental health issues is absolutely possible.
The post Coping With Mental Health Issues- Ask for Help Even If You Don’t Feel Like appeared first on Raise Vegan. Via https://raisevegan.com/coping-with-mental-health-issues-ask-for-help-even-if-you-dont-feel-like/ The California farm responsible for the recent e.coli outbreak scare is now recalling cauliflower and red and green lettuce. What on earth are millennial supposed to eat now? Cauliflower was the vegetable of the year, satisfying health-conscious taste buds in the form of delicious pizza crust, cauliflower rice dishes and even my favorite, buffalo cauliflower bites. Cauliflower is Being Recalled After E.Coli Outbreak ScareAlthough no illnesses have yet been reported, Adams Bros. Farms decided to voluntary recall the produce due to concerns that it may have been contaminated with e.coli. In a statement, the farm said that reservoir sediment tested positive for e.coli close to where the vegetables were grown. Water from the reservoir that had been filtered and treated may have come in contact with the vegetables after harvesting. Last month e.coli tainted romaine lettuce from the same farm sickened 59 people in 11 states and even in Canada. The CDC warned consumers not to eat the recalled products and advised that they throw it away. Consumers were also warned not to eat any romaine lettuce for Monterey, San Benito, and Santa Barbara counties in California. The cauliflower that could potentially cause E.coli outbreak was harvested in California from November 27 through 30. It was delivered to stores in Arizona, California, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, as well as to Canada and Mexico. The Lettuce is believed to have been shipped to California, Colorado, Texas, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington, and Canada. If you do have cauliflower or lettuce that came from California and was harvested on those dates you should throw it away or take it back to where you bought it from. The Mayo Clinic says that the signs and symptoms of E. coli infection usually start 3 to 4 days after exposure to the bacteria, in some cases people can become ill one day after exposure and up to one week after. Signs and symptoms of e.coli infection include; diarrhea ranging from mild to bloody and severe, abdominal cramping, and nausea and vomiting.

They are usually rich and layered with sugar to balance out a salty dinner. But I, for one, will admit that sometimes I appreciate a clean healthy dessert with no guilt or added pounds. When there is no added sugar you can happily go back for seconds, which is how I like it. This apple crumble dessert is light and clean, but will also hit your sweet tooth just enough to not crave any added sugar. The apples bring a nice tartness and the oats are slightly crisp with a hint of maple. The beauty of this type of dessert is in the pairing. To keep it airy you can add it to a cup of coconut milk yogurt. If you are looking for something a little more sinful dairy-free ice cream is always on the top of the list. Without much ado, let’s get to the apple crumble recipe. YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE:

You really can’t go wrong especially with ones that are filled with a heaping serving of soft potatoes and sweet corn. The southwest flavors of this potato corn chowder are always a great combination especially topped with vegan cheese to make it extra rich. This soup doesn’t have much heat and is mild, but if you prefer a little kick of spice you can definitely amp that up with adding a few of the jalapeno seeds. This recipe is obviously paired perfectly with crispy tortilla chips and I highly recommend topping it with green onion and cilantro for a fresh crisp flavor.
