Setting a precedence, India took action against its star golfer, Jyoti Randhawa for illegal poaching in a protected area. The ace golfer (46), along with Mahesh Virajdar (former Navy captain), was arrested on 26th December for unlawful hunting in Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, which is a protected area. You might also like:
Golfer Arrested For Illegal PoachingIndia’s professional golfer, Jyoti Randhawa was arrested for unlawful hunting in the protected Tiger Reserve and has been put into 14 days judicial custody by the court. His bail plea has also been rejected. As per the Zee News report, Skin of wild boar, a dead fowl, 80 live cartridges, .22 bore rifle, magazine, rangefinders, 3 empty cartridges and mobile search light torches were recovered from the international golfer’s possession. Randhawa and his accomplice Virajdar have been slapped with charges under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and the Indian Forest Act, 1927. Apart from illegal poaching, Randhawa is already facing heat after his name emerged in an investigation, by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), focused on illegal import of firearms. Allegedly, these are the same weapons involved in unlawful hunting in the protected area. The golfer, who once ranked among top 100 world players in a period from 2004 to 2009 and bagged 16 professional victories, isn’t new to controversies. Earlier this year, Randhawa got involved in the highly criticized shooting of Avni (a tigeress) when he bought his Italian mastiffs to aide in the tigress’s hunting in Yavatmal.
